"IN THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, WASHINGTON, D,C., I SAW A SELF-PORTAIT OF JUDITH LEYSTER AND ONE BY ROSALBA CARRIERA. BOTH PAINTED PORTRAITS OF THEMSELVES AS ARTISTS, HOLDING BRUSHES AND PALLETES. I WAS DEEPLY MOVED BY THESE PAINTINGS AND FELT THAT I WAS SEEING AN ECHO OF MY IDENTITY AS AN ARTIST ACROSS THE CENTURIES. HERE WERE WOMEN SAYING, 'LOOK, HERE, I AM...AN ARTIST.'..."

"NA National Gallery of Art, Washington, D, C., eu vi um auto retrato de Judith Leyster e um de Rosalba Carriera . AMBOS retratos pintados das próprias artistas, segurando pincéis, palhetas. Fiquei profundamente emocionada com essas pinturas e senti que eu estava vendo um ECO de minha identidade como artista ao longo dos séculos. Ali estavam mulheres dizendo: 'Olha, aqui, eu sou ... UMA ARTISTA .'..."
